We were walking and walking and walking. My feet could have fallen off at this point! It had been such a long day and the end was not in sight yet. From the Colosseum we headed to the Roman Forum. Thankfully, it wasn't such a bad hike. The forum is the central area around which the ancient roman civilization developed. The oldest parts of the city are here!
Pretty building on the way.
Every city I visited is documented by some sign in the pavement. : ) It became quite fun to watch where I walked in hopes for a great shot.
The Temple of Saturn
It was incredible to stand where Caesar stood!
Temple of Caesar...the site where Julius Caesar was cremated!
Left to Right: Temple of Saturn, Column of Phocus, Temple of Vespian, and Arch of Severus
Temple of Antoninus and Faustina
Modern art amidst the ruins...what contrast!
Taking a quick break! We were tired, but loved every second in Rome.
Me with Cecilia, our group leader and the newest addition to the English dept.
Pieces of the Basilica of Julia.
I can't say I want to be part of the excavation and restoration team.
We then walked around and saw the Il Vittoriano.
More to come! We're still in Rome.
